Ronald McDonald House Ireland was founded on a simple belief. When a child is seriously ill, family should be close.
In 2004, we opened our first House in Crumlin to support families whose children were receiving specialist care far from home.
At a time when parents were facing long hospital stays, unfamiliar cities and real financial pressure, the need was clear. Families needed a place to stay that felt safe, practical and human.
Over the past 21 years, that need has not gone away. It has grown.
Families have come to us from every county in Ireland, travelling hundreds of kilometres to be near their child’s hospital bed. Some stay for a few nights. Others stay for months. All of them need the same thing. To be together.
Since opening, we have supported 5,413 families and provided over 117,000 nights of accommodation. Behind every number is a family doing their best in very hard circumstances.
Today, our House in Crumlin continues to support families beside Children’s Health Ireland. And as Ireland’s paediatric healthcare system evolves, so do we. We are preparing to open a new 52 bedroom Ronald McDonald House alongside the new Children’s Hospital, ensuring that even more families can stay close, when it matters most.
