Volunteer Christmas Party

Student Volunteering

Student volunteering at Ronald McDonald House Ireland offers real, practical experience in a working environment that supports families during serious childhood illness.

We welcome students who want to learn, contribute and take responsibility – not just observe. Whether you’re in third level looking to build experience, or completing a Transition Year placement, student volunteers play a useful and valued role in the House.

It’s structured, supervised and genuinely worthwhile.

Family stays – and student volunteers help support the everyday work behind that promise.

Who can apply

We offer student volunteering opportunities for:

Third level students seeking practical experience

Transition Year students completing school placements

Placements are based on House capacity, supervision availability and suitability of the role.

Not every period of the year can support student placements, so scheduling is planned in advance.

What Student Volunteers Do

Student volunteers support staff and general volunteers across a range of practical and operational tasks. Work is matched to age, experience level and placement requirements. This is active participation, not shadowing. Students are given real tasks with real purpose.

Typical activities can include:

Filing and Organisational Tasks

Stock Organisation and Supply Checks

Donation Sorting and Preparation

Light Housekeeping and Shared Space Resets

Garden and Outdoor Help

Event Preparation Support

Resource Packing Projects such as Family Packs or Supplies
